Fire at the lake!!

This weekend was just an ordinary weekend at the lake again and I thought I wouldn't really have anything too exciting to blog about....then things changed on Sunday afternoon. We left Sampson in the shaded kennel with his water at the property while we went on the boats. Sampson usually comes with us, but lately he has been a handful to have on the beach. We were all sitting around on the beach enjoying the HOT weather when someone said " hey there is a fire on the hill"..." that looks like it is near our property"...so this is what we saw Our friends Tom and Jill were there and made a phone call to one of the neighbors....sure enough, it was right next door to my parents property. They have 20 acres of land, but at the top of the property is their 5th wheel and our travel trailer...but more importantly...Sampson, locked in his kennel!!! So my parents, luke and mari jumped in my dad's boat and headed for the property while the rest of us held down the beach. Tom was on the phone with a local neighbor trying to tell him that sampson was in his kennel and if he could go get him...well, the fire people wouldn't let him go in...so I was in a panic and started crying on the beach thinking my baby boy yellow lab being trapped in the fire!! When luke and my dad got to the property sampson was gone..someone had let him out of the kennel. there was a helicopter and firemen at the scene.

The fire was burning my parents field and so the rest of us packed up the beach and headed back with the boats. I had carson (tom and jill's daughter) ride in the boat with me to help with josie ( who was so oblivious to anything that was going on...she was such a good girl). we got up to the property and the fire was contained, but no sampson. somehow we found out that the police had the name and # of a girl who had sampson!!! we called her and she is sampson's Hero!! Her name was Taylor and she is 17. she was driving by the place when the neighbor's trailer basically exploded 3 or 4 times. she saw shooting flames coming towards our property so she drove up the road to make sure no one was there....then she saw poor sampson and rescued him. She lives down the road at hawk creek and so she took him swimming and gave him a new toy! we called her and she brought him back to us. I think he had more fun with her then with us:) We will be sending taylor a big thank you from sampson and ourselves!! At the end of the day, none of our stuff was burned except the field and sampson now gets to go to the beach with us...he also got to sleep in the house last night..which is very rare:) this is the aftermath. the two white dots at the top of the picture are my parents 5th wheel and our travel trailer...we were lucky the wind wasn't strong yesterday.

The cause of the fire is 'unknown' the people who lived there said it was a bbq explosion?? but the people who heard it said it was a lot of explosions and that would not be too likely. So for now my parents have a charred field but we are lucky to have our dog safe and sound!!

I think spokane set heat record sunday and it was really hot at the property. they had cut the power so we didn't have a/c in the trailers when we got back. We ended up puting josie's pack and play in the back of the yukon and turning on the a/c. she took a nap while we made sure the fire wasn't coming any closer...Im pretty sure this wasn't accurate, but this is how hot it felt!! It says 126 degrees..ha ha
