Friday night races and Josie's Freeride competition

2 fridays ago the kids had their last friday night race but it was cancelled due to the weather. The weather has been very random at the mountain this year. They still had the final ice cream party and awards that they always have on the last night. Landon and his friend mason were not into posing for pictures.

Josie's team won most improved. Josie was 3rd fastest girl but they only place top 2. 

 Saturday afternoon Josie's friend Gabby joined us. She wanted to learn how to ski so her mom bought her a learn to ski package and she is going to take some lessons. The girls went swimming saturday afternoon.

 Josie doesn't ski with her team on Sundays so she was excited to give Gabby a lesson in the afternoon.

 Meanwhile...In Arizona. My parents were out enjoying the sun.

 Last week Josie and I left for the mountain on thursday night. Her first Freeride competition was this past weekend so they were having practice friday afternoon. We woke up friday and it was pouring rain and really windy. Schweitzer's snow report called it 'Tricky Weather'.

 Josie's friend Erin is on the freeride team too. Her mom had brought her up thursday night so we hung out while the rain came down outside at their condo.

 Josie and I went up to the village and had lunch and a massage. Josie had never had a massage before so she was excited. We had a relaxing afternoon.

 Saturday morning we had to be up to the lodge for a 7:30am meeting to brief the kids on how the competition would work. The competition is not judged on speed, but on the line you take down a steep hill, if you stop you are docked points or if you fall. The goal is to jump off of rocks and cornices and do tricks. There are not many girls who do the program, so Josie and Erin only had 5 girls in their age group. Out of 92 kids there were only 14 or so girls in the competition. Unfortunately it was still pouring rain and the winds were gusting to 60mph. That meant the lifts were not running to get them to where they needed to go. They cancelled the competition and said they would do it on Sunday. 

The kids ended up swimming and playing with friends during the wind and rain storm. Landon and the kids were playing pantyhose polo...

 The next morning we woke up to blue sky's and freezing cold temps in the teens. There were trees down on one of the runs that Landon trains on. We were glad they were not training when the trees came down.

When the temp's dropped it froze all the rain on the mountain and the run that the competition was on turned into pure ice. At the meeting Sunday morning the head judge said it would be 'Suicide by Ice' if they let the kids run it. So, once again her competition was cancelled. They never got to compete...but at least the sun came out and the view was nice. I took a picture of the girls giving a thumbs down sign in front of the competition run with a red 'area closed' sign. The competition was called the Lakeside Chute Out and was going to be on Lakeside Chutes.

The Mountain is supposed to get more snow this week so hopefully next weekend will be a little more 'skiable'
