Ski racing mt. Spokane

This past weekend the kids had a ski race at mt. Spokane. Saturday was GS (giant slalom) and Sunday was Slolam. Mt. Spokane is only about an hour from our house. We left the house by 5:30am each day. Saturday the weather was nice but cold and the snow was pure ice. In ski racing that is ideal, but the kids have had the luxury of skiing in powder and warmer snow all season, so Ice was not what they were used to. Josie fell on both her runs and Landon was in 5th after his first run, but fell on the second. So Saturday was a bust. We brought the bbq and had burgers afterwards and then headed home.

 Sunday we got to the lodge and Luke asked me if Josie had grabbed her slalom ski's out of the truck, because her ski's were not in the truck. Josie had not...which meant that we had left her ski's at home! It would have taken 2 hours for Luke to drive home and back to grab her ski's. He immediately headed for home. I did some ski mom hustling in the lodge and found some friends that had an extra pair of ski's that Josie could use! So Josie raced on longer ski's than she was used to for slalom and handled it like a champ. I don't think we will ever leave hers ski's at home again!

 Josie had 2 clean runs and finished 18th overall. She was proud of herself for finishing with 2 clean runs.

 Landon is little for his age, but I had to laugh because the kid who placed 6th was almost as tall as Landon who was standing on the podium:)

 It was a good day of racing. The kids wanted to go to red lobster for dinner, but the kids were in long underwear and their speed suits and we were in ski gear, so we were not dressed for dinner. So, we stopped at the store and bought red lobster biscuits, lobster and potatoes and had our own Red Lobster dinner:) After dinner the power went out and stayed out for several hours. The kids used Josie's safety glasses with battery candles attached to them to see around the house. I think we went to bed around 7:30 we were so tired and it was dark.

This week I work Monday, tues, wed and then will be off until Tuesday. This weekend at Schweitzer they do a fireworks show and have a glow parade Sunday night. No races this weekend, just training and free skiing.
