Last Tuesday Joey woke up with his head swollen. It looked like he had been stung by a bee. It started getting worse throughout the day so Luke took him to the vet.
The vet took an x ray and said that he had chipped a small bone under his eye and it was just swelling from the break. She gave him some steroids and some pain meds and sent him home.
It didn't seem to be improving by thursday so Luke stopped by the vet again and the assistant told him to increase the steroids to help with the swelling. Saturday his face was still swollen. We headed up to the mountain to work on the condo. Joey was pretty lethargic.
It had snowed a little on our way up Saturday morning. It was really pretty.
When we arrived, we realized our cable was not working and we don't have any internet hooked up at the new condo so the kids had to entertain themselves the old fashion way!
They made card houses and forts in Landon's bedroom while luke painted and I took down all the 1980 wood towel racks.
Walter was even worried about Joey and hung out with him on the couch, which never happens at home.
This morning Josie woke me up and said Dad needs you, Joey is bleeding! Poor Joey's head abscessed and basically exploded all over the couch. It smelled so bad and there was blood and puss all over. We were really lucky and found a vet that was open on a Sunday in Sandpoint. We didn't even call, we just showed up!
The vet ended up keeping Joey for the morning. They put him under anesthesia, shaved his face, cleaned out the infection and placed drain tubes in. It was so sad to leave him, but knew that he was in good hands.
We headed back to the condo and got some stuff done. Luke bought a clock radio so we could listen to the Seahawks game. Landon thought it was the coolest thing ever. We told him it was our birthday present to him:)
The vet called around noon and said that surgery went well and Joey was ready to be picked up. We packed up and picked him up on our way home. They put drain tubes in and he has actual buttons sewn to his head! The buttons help with the healing. He has to have the drain tubes in for 5 days and the stitches in for 2 weeks. He also has the cone of shame.
We have to keep him contained for a few days so we bought him a kennel to keep him in. So far he hasn't moved. He drank and ate when he got home, but as soon as we put him in his kennel he fell asleep.
The Barre studio I go to is still honoring me for the month of October. They made shirts and tank tops for breast cancer awareness and decorated the studio in pink. Last year they honored Lisa. She had breast cancer last year and did a lumpectomy and radiation. This is me and Lisa.
Tomorrow I have my Pre op appointment for my Surgery. I am not sure what they do, but I am excited to be moving closer and closer to having these expanders removed!
